What Is Orderable?

Orderable is an all-in-one WooCommerce plugin that introduces a local ordering system to WordPress sites. It can empower you to accept orders independently, reduce reliance on third-party apps, and diversify your revenue sources.

Don’t confuse it with its namesake B2B ordering system, which may now be out of business.

Any local retailer can find Orderable useful. But its primary beneficiaries are food and beverage ventures like ghost kitchen operations and breweries, florists, hardware stores, and pharmacies.

As a freemium product, its core features are available at no cost. If you have limited capital, this must be music to your ears.

To actively grow your sales, you can go with Orderable Pro, the premium edition. It’s available by subscription, so you don’t have to worry about commissions. It’s a bold departure from MenuDrive’s pricing model, which involves a monthly subscription, a setup fee, and a flat transaction charge.

As of writing, just 600+ sites are actively using Orderable. This figure is just a drop in a bucket, considering that WordPress powers more than 455 million sites. But don’t let this relatively new plugin’s underwhelming user base size fool you.

First, its low installation count is forgivable. Its free and premium versions have only been around since June and November 2021, respectively.

Second, Orderable is a StellarWP brand. So, it’s part of the suite of WordPress ecommerce solutions controlled by Liquid Web – an institution in the hosting industry.

Without looking too deeply under the hood, here’s how this WooCommerce add-on works:

Mobile-First Design

Irrespective of screen size, the Orderable plugin looks great. This is good news since the people who order food online generally use their mobile devices.

With it, your customers would feel like they’re using an app instead of browsing a site.

One-Page Ordering

Orderable lets your site visitors view your entire product selection in one place. In turn, your customers can see everything without clicking too many times or loading too many pages.

Increased ease of ordering usually translates to a better experience, so this feature’s merit is self-evident.

Product Layout Builder

Using Orderable, you can organize your items in multiple ways to properly present them to your prospects. Its product layout builder is highly intuitive, so you don’t need to learn any coding to get started.

This tool lets you create product categories, define sections, and choose how to display your goods. It also has optional settings for images and clickable cards.

Moreover, you also get real-time preview. If you’re happy with your work, you can copy-paste its shortcode on any page to publish it.

Orderable works on all page builders and even provides native Gutenberg blocks.

Order Flow

With this plugin, you can control when and how many orders can come in at a time. This way, you won’t get overwhelmed by purchases you can’t physically handle.

During setup, Orderable would ask you to determine your order-flow rules by configuring your store settings. Apart from finalizing your open hours and time zone, you can choose to offer delivery, pickup, or both.

Likewise, you can specify your service hours, which don’t necessarily need to match your business ones.

If you want to accept delivery or pickup orders during your business hours, you can choose All Day. Otherwise, you can leverage the Orderable WordPress plugin’s Time Slots to have more control over your schedule.

Time Slots would bar your customers from making purchases outside of your service hours. It spells convenience when you’re closed during certain parts of the day.

In addition, you can establish the maximum number of orders you can handle per time slot. To help enforce this, you can set the intervals and the cutoff period.

Also, you can activate As Soon As Possible. This would help your customers automatically grab a spot in the next available time slot.

Moreover, you can enable pre-ordering and determine the number of days in advance you’re willing to accept orders.

Lastly, you can create holiday hours to take a break during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the like.

The default checkout page style can still get the job done. But the custom one will definitely make your local business look more professional. It may not totally eliminate cart abandonment, but there’s no doubt it could help minimize it.

Checkout Tipping

Another benefit of being a premium license holder is the ability to add tip options during checkout.

When enabled, you can choose between Fixed Amount and Percentage. You can dictate the label of each option, including the standard No Tip, and set which should be the default one. Plus, you can permit customers to enter a custom amount.

Orderable Ease of Use and Interface

To set up this local ordering system, you need WooCommerce. Of course, you must also have a functioning site. You don’t necessarily have to build it using a WordPress theme from Kadence – one of the Orderable sister products.

Once the plugin is in place, it becomes a tab on your WordPress dashboard, and its settings are instantly accessible.

Configuring Orderable is straightforward. Its customization options are logical. And it lets you apply the same service hours to both delivery and pickup with ease.

Orderable Support

This add-on provider extends responsive email support. I received a satisfactory reply a couple of hours after opening a ticket. And its representative didn’t shy away from including a link to a third-party Orderable review on YouTube.

The video answered my basic questions and then some. But it was also a testimony to Orderable’s shortage of quality resources.

Outside of its help desk, its knowledge base can impart simple setup guides. Despite having decent how-to articles, you may still need to look elsewhere for answers. That said, the content library has good typography and layout.

The Orderable site also has a blog. However, it only had eight entries when I browsed through it. And one of them was somewhat a duplicate of the Checkout Tipping tutorial on the Documentation page.

For me, the FAQ section was one of the best Orderable customer service options. It can address some of your most pressing questions in a straightforward fashion. I wish it was larger, though.

There’s a free demo too. It’s not an extensive product walkthrough, but it would let you see its different list and grid layouts in action.

Orderable is on Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube too. But unless you’ve actively looked for its pages, you probably learned about them here.

It’s abundantly clear that marketing isn’t high on the brand’s agenda. Except for its private Facebook Group, there are no social links on its site.

The Orderable team rarely tweets and posts on Facebook. While its YouTube channel has some video tutorials, it can stay dormant for months.

Supposedly, you can chat with the Orderable team via Messenger. I tried to interact with them, but they seen zoned me for nearly two days.

Orderable Pricing

Out of all the Orderable reviews on WordPress, there’s only one negative. And it was about the company’s confusing pricing scheme. Fortunately, this brand has made great strides in this area since its rollout.

Orderable has a forever-free plan. And its Pro version is available for sale as an annual subscription only.

And if you need Orderable for multiple sites, you’ll be able to scale the Pro version up. This option can be a godsend to WordPress hosting resellers that serve a growing number of clients.

The problem is that you can’t get a custom quote for a specified number of sites with your Pro subscription. But upgrading your license can drive down your cost per site by up to 86.60%.

Payment-wise, you can use PayPal or a credit card via Stripe. Orderable backs its product with a money-back guarantee. The company entitles you to a full refund should you cancel within the first 30 days.

Orderable Review – Verdict

As a nascent product, it would take time before it becomes as capable as its developers aspire it to be. However, it’s hard to beat against its pricing model.

Orderable has a free, albeit restricted, license and charges no setup and transaction fees.

It would’ve been nice if the Pro edition had a free trial and was available in more billing options, though. But at least you can cancel it risk-free.

I hope to see more ways to reach Orderable’s help desk in the future. But at present, its email reps are already responsive.
