What is Hootsuite?

Hootsuite is the biggest and best known social media management tool, with over 16 million users and 1,000+ employees. In 2018, the company received $50 million in growth capital, which allowed it to expand even further and add new features.

The platform is ideal for small to medium-sized businesses and marketing departments. It helps them publish posts, conduct social media research, and gives insight into their profiles’ analytics. Hootsuite integrates with many other platforms and social media networks.

In our Hootsuite review below, we will discuss the cost, features, free plans, and more.

Hootsuite Features

The core suite of features lets you schedule posts, curate content, see social media analytics, and manage your team. As you can integrate the program with more than 35 social media networks, Hootsuite covers all fronts.

Publishing and Scheduling Posts

Publishing and scheduling social media posts is the standard and most-used Hootsuite feature. All you need to do is navigate to the Publisher section. Then, create a new post for any or all social media platforms, type in your text, add a link, and get an instant preview of how the post will look.

Once you finish, you can publish the content instantly or schedule it for later. The Post and Duplicate feature allows you to share the same update multiple times, with the primary goal of reaching audiences in different time zones. You can also add media, set a location, and save the content as a draft.

Social Inboxes and Mentions

One of the things many Hootsuite reviews highlight is the social inbox and engagement features. Hootsuite gives you a way to interact with your followers without having to log in on your social media profile. The app tracks incoming direct messages and lets you respond via the inbox.

From the inbox, you can also reply to your mentions without leaving the Hootsuite app. This is especially handy for Twitter.

Streams Dashboard

The Streams Dashboard makes it easy to see the latest news on the topics you’re monitoring. You can pull in assets from your other accounts (Microsoft OneDrive, Dropbox, Google Drive) and publish the information within your social media post.

Social Listening

The built-in social listening tool in Hootsuite is called My Industry. It lets you add keywords and follow hashtags. However, many Hootsuite reviews advice to limit your following here as your dashboard easily gets cluttered.

Content Planning

The Content tab is where you find your drafts, scheduled content that needs your approval, and rejected content. The RSS feed can also be found here and is a great content source for your social media accounts.

Team Features

If you are a team or a marketing department, some of the plans might be a bit limited for your needs. Even though it’s possible to have multiple users on one account, it lacks features to show your team’s productivity or give members tasks. This is only supported in the Enterprise plan.

Overall Performance: Interface and Ease of Use

Hootsuite has revamped its look a few times over its existence. The latest update came last year when the platform introduced a modern, clean, and ideal look for tech-savvy marketers.

When we tested the platform, we found the new interface very user-friendly. Everything is clean and straightforward, including signing up, connecting your social profiles, and scheduling posts. We were pleased to see that Hootsuite allows you to schedule posts for YouTube, which isn’t supported on many other scheduling platforms.

Also, we found the Hootsuite dashboard to be very convenient. While you can see all of the posts in a card design, the app refreshes itself every 15 minutes, ensuring that everything that is scheduled, edited, or updated is automatically published.

There are many training and certifications available to motivate you to improve your social media marketing skills.

During our tests, everything seemed to be running smoothly. The only issue we encountered was with Instagram, as Hootsuite doesn’t offer multi-photo posts. If you want to publish a gallery on Instagram, you have to do it manually.

Hootsuite Pros

Today’s online world comes with countless social media networks that are getting more complicated. Hootsuite is the solution to save time running multiple social media accounts.

As a robust social media software, Hootsuite has tons of handy features and an excellent interface. It also comes with many third-party integrations that best speak for its reputation. Knowing that the social media world changes rapidly, the Hootsuite app makes it easy to keep on top of your posts.

Moreover, the platform offers certifications for beginners and professionals who want to gain more experience in social media marketing.

Hootsuite Cons

There are many complaints about the service getting more and more expensive. Compared to other social media management apps, Hootsuite is pricey. But considering its position as a leader in this space, perhaps this is justifiable. Users also claim that the free version of Hootsuite should have the hashtag report enabled.

Some people find the scheduler buggy, but we didn’t experience any issues during our tests. On top of that, the lack of training for some users is why many people point fingers at Hootsuite.

Lastly, people say that the Hootsuite customer service needs to be better and quicker in resolving issues. This is mostly because of the urgency users have when publishing a post on social media.

While these cons are understandable, we don’t think they are huge drawbacks considering how robust the social media management software is.

Hootsuite Integrations

Most of the 5-star Hootsuite reviews praise the app’s ability to integrate with other apps, and we have to agree. There are more than 150 app integrations. Adding your social media measurement tools and content management systems can be done with just a few clicks.

Sendible vs Hootsuite

When comparing the Hootsuite social media platform with Sendible, we can see many similar features. With Sendible, you can access reports on social metrics, build and schedule information, and use Google Analytics within the app.

Still, the Hootsuite dashboard has better features for centralized social media management, responding to customers within the platform, and other tasks.

In terms of curating and scheduling posts, Sendible offers calendar-based posting and Canva access to customize your media. Hootsuite has built-in libraries, where you can store the content and publish your work based on specific segments. Hootsuite comes with the contests and campaigns feature, which lets users run custom sweepstakes or contests through the account’s dashboard.

Overall, both platforms are great. While Sendible is cheaper and has more analytics abilities, Hootsuite comes with extra features. Also, there are more positive Hootsuite reviews compared to Sendible.

Hootsuite vs SocialPilot

From a first glance at the features and pricing, Hootsuite and SocialPilot are quite similar. While both have great dashboards, SocialPilot stands out regarding the ease of use and improved social media efficiency.

According to online reviews, the customer support team is better at SocialPilot, even though it is not present 24/7. Still, Hootsuite has an advantage with the many features, analytics, and suggestions.

The lack of contact management, customer targeting, and keyword filtering in SocialPilot also make Hootsuite a better choice. On top of that, webinars and in-person training are supported by Hootsuite and not available with SocialPilot.

Hootsuite vs Buffer

Buffer is known as a platform that goes shoulder-to-shoulder with Hootsuite. Our Hootsuite review shows that its features are very similar to Buffer.

Its affordable prices make Buffer stand out. However, Hootsuite has a better free plan with a limit of 30 scheduled posts, while Buffer limits it at only ten.

In terms of features, ease of use, and functionality, both are excellent. Buffer is better than Hootsuite when it comes to reporting and analytics. But the scheduling, ad-hoc posting, and conversation management are better on Hootsuite.

Hootsuite Cost

If you want to use the service without paying, you can try the Hootsuite free plan. While it’s limited in features, it gives you a taste of the program’s abilities. If you decide to upgrade to one of the paid plans, you can try the 30-day free trial. The Hootsuite pricing structure has five plan, including:

Trial - 30 days

Allows for one user, three social profiles, and a 30 posts limit.

Allows for one user, ten social profiles, unlimited and automated, automated scheduling, key performance analytics, unlimited RSS integrations, and a $500/month ad spend limit.

Customizable features.

If you want to use Hootsuite as a non-profit organization, you may be eligible for a discount. Unfortunately, there is no money-back guarantee on any of the Hootsuite plans.

Customer Support

The Hootsuite support team is available via live chat, Twitter, Facebook, and email. Alternatively, there is free training available through the Hootsuite Academy and a detailed Help Center where you can find answers to common questions.

Users can also use the “tweet for support” feature, which brings up a publishing window, including the Twitter handle for Hootsuite Help. You can type your message, send it immediately, and add screenshots or media if you need to.

In addition to the Twitter support option, users can try live chat or get in touch with the Hootsuite Facebook support. Unfortunately, we thought the live chat was most inconvenient to use. The window kept disappearing, and we didn’t receive any replies.

Hootsuite Review - Verdict

We can safely say that Hootsuite is a great social media management tool. With a free plan and a 30-day free trial for paid subscriptions, it has something for everybody. However, we think that the pricing is steep, especially seeing that it has increased over the past few years.

However, the platform’s list of features also expanded over the years. There are so many great tools that are found exclusively in Hootsuite. If you are ready to pay a little extra, you can expect a smooth social media management process.
