What Is Fast Usenet?

Fast Usenet launched in 2010, which was part of the newer wave of modern Usenet services. It offers everything you need to access the network of newsgroups, with over 120,000 at your fingertips. While not all of these will be active or fully functional, this is the standard for most Usenet service providers.

During the test for this Fast Usenet review, we were particularly impressed with the speed of the service and the quality of the newsreader it provides. You get the GrabIt content downloader, which includes a powerful search feature. This is even on the free trial. It allows you to find text posts and those sought-after binary files going back for 12 years. The news software is specifically configured for the Fast Usenet network, allowing for unlimited searches and user-friendly access to browse newsgroups and to grab files.

What’s more, if you for whatever reason you prefer a different newsreader, there are no restrictions other than the plan you’re on. GrabIt is just recommended and bundled with the Fast Usenet service, so you don’t have to pay extra for a reader with full features. Overall, it’s some of the best Usenet software out there for binary newsgroups. We suggest you stick with it.

Other Fast Usenet user tools include easy web access and a Fast Usenet app so you can manage your account on Android and iOS mobile devices as well.

Access is versatile, so whether you’re using Fast Usenet on the older Microsoft Windows 7 or even Mac, the experience is still top-notch. Most Fast Usenet user reviews are generally favorable.

Fast Usenet Retention

Retention is an important feature for any Usenet service provider. It simply refers to the amount of time text and/or binary files are saved on their servers before deletion. Fast Usenet currently offers 4,611+ days, which is well over 12 years.

This is about in line with many other quality Usenet internet service, though there is the odd top-tier provider that offers even more. So, that’s worth keeping in mind. If you’re looking for a rare file or old information, you still stand a good chance of finding it.

Fast Usenet Speed

Whether you’re using Fast Usenet on Windows or the Usenet app, you’ll be blown away from the speed. It has servers in both the United States and Europe.

For this Fast Usenet review, we did several speed tests and found it to almost be on par with the regular average speed of that particular connection. That’s excellent if you are primarily downloading large binary files and not just browsing Usenet forums for text posts.

It also offers 50 secure connections, which is more than enough. It only becomes an issue if you’re headed below the 15 mark. 50 connections mean you’re always primed for a stable and fast experience.

Unlike some poorer Usenet internet service options out there, this one does not cap or throttle your speed. Their pricing plans are solely based on how much data you download and have no bearing on your speed.

Customer Support

Fast Usenet user reviews show that the vendor provides a solid customer support experience. We can confirm. While there is no direct email to contact staff with, the account-based ticketing system works well. Our test questions were addressed within the day, and the staff seemed knowledgeable and helpful.

We wouldn’t expect you to run into many issues, and the GrabIt newsreader is user-friendly and intuitive enough for those new to the Usenet internet experience. You can pick things up easily. It’s really not that much different from browsing internet forums or bulletin board systems of old. You just get upgraded search functions and easy downloads.

Fast Usenet Pricing

Fast Usenet is well priced; not the cheapest on the internet but cheaper than many as well. The 14-day trial and generous 15GBs of download data give you the perfect opportunity to properly test the service and Fast Usenet tools available to you.

At the time of writing of this Fast Usenet review, the options are:

Free Trial

14 Days

Offer includes 50 SSL connections, GrabIt Newsreader with unlimited search, and 15GB download data.

6 Gigabytes

Offer includes guaranteed US & EU servers, 50 SSL connections, GrabIt Newsreader with unlimited search and 6GB download data.

35 Gigabytes

Offer includes guaranteed US & EU newsgroup servers, 50 SSL connections, GrabIt Newsreader with unlimited search and 35GB download data.

Unlimited Usenet

Offer includes guaranteed US & EU servers, 50 SSL connections, GrabIt news client with unlimited search and no download limits/ Unmetered

As you can see, the pricing is not much different between plans, so if you know you’ll be downloading terabytes of Usenet binaries, it makes sense to go unlimited

These data-based plans are known as metered plans as they work on a monthly billing model, regardless of how much of your allotted data you use. Think of it as a cell phone plan. We wouldn’t mind seeing a ‘block plan’ which allows you to pay for a set amount of data that doesn’t expire until you’ve used it all up. That would make it a more well-rounded service.

Fast Usenet Review – Verdict

Overall, it is a great service, whether you’re accessing Fast Usenet on Windows 10 or the mobile apps. Fast Usenet user reviews praise its speed and reliability. Although 50 connections are a bit overkill, it’s still reassuring.

Having SSL encrypted connections is also a nice touch for security, though a Usenet VPN might help push it into top-tier status by maintaining optimum privacy.

Retention is good, and FastUsenet’s preconfigured version of the GrabIt newsreader software with an unlimited Usenet search engine makes everything a lot easier to navigate. It’s one of the best Usenet browsers out there.

While it is competitively priced, it lacks some of the features others do at a similar price range. For example, you cannot pay with Bitcoin or other cryptos and there’s no VPN. Furthermore, we’ve always preferred to buy blocks of indefinite data rather than a rolling contract that renews each month.

To conclude our Fast Usenet review, we give it a solid 3.5 out of 5. This Usenet provider has everything you need, and we cannot falter its speed. But there are a few extras we’d like to see implemented
