Sapling Grammar Review

Updated · Aug 03, 2022
Best for: Customer Support Representatives
What Is Sapling?
Sapling Grammar is an artificial intelligence-powered writing assistant, originally made for enterprises. However, it is also available for individuals.
It helps agents that work with CRMs (Customer Relationship Management Systems) and messaging platforms to write clear responses to their customers.
With this software, you can:
- Avoid repetitions
- Increase your efficiency
- Reduce typos
The tool has both free and paid versions.
You also have the option to choose between seven languages and American, British, Canadian, and Australian English.
Furthermore, you can download extensions for different web browsers and add-ons for Google Docs, Microsoft Word, Outlook, etc. The installation is simple and you can start using it immediately.
How Does Sapling Work?
When you launch Sapling, it scans your entire document. Then, it gives you suggestions on how to make your content clear.
The software highlights your mistakes in a sentence and shows you how to fix them. If you agree with the suggestions, you just need to click on the green button. Then Sapling rewrites it for you within seconds.
I tried using Sapling on Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Word. When I launched it, it took a couple of seconds to scan the entire document. But it was worth the wait, it detected all of my mistakes and I managed to fix my content.
Features
The free Sapling writing assistant version has a lot of basic features like:
Passive voice checker
When you use an active voice, your writing is more efficient and you use fewer words. This tool detects passive voice and suggests other, more fitting options.
Synonym suggestions
Sapling knows that sometimes you may not choose the best words. That’s why it shows you a variety of synonyms that better suit the text.
Tense checker
This feature looks for incorrect tense usage. It also checks if you’re consistent with the tenses throughout the text.
Grammar checker
The AI-powered Sapling writing assistant will act as a real-time instant proofreader. It makes sure that your content is grammatically correct.
Punctuation checker
We all know that a comma can change the meaning of the whole sentence. That’s why Sapling scans your entire document and shows you if you missed or misused any.
Spell checker
It’s very important to have well-written content. If you have spelling mistakes, you lose your credibility. Luckily, this tool detects and shows you how to fix them.
Word counter
If you’re a student, or you write for a living, then you have a lot of tasks that require a specific word count. Sapling will calculate the total for you.
That, however, is hardly all the software can offer. Take a look at the advanced options:
Advanced features
The features below are only available in the pro version of the Sapling Grammar app. You can take advantage of the 30-day free trial and give them a try.
Here’s the summary:
Autocomplete suggestions
This will help you compose responses to your clients faster. Sapling’s AI learns your style with time.
For example, when you type the same sentence a few times, the software remembers it. The next time you type the first words of it, you’ll see an autocomplete suggestion.
To top it all, you can use a keyboard shortcut to activate the feature.
Snippets
The Sapling Grammar app offers snippets, meaning it lets you insert pieces of text that your team uses often. They come in handy if you work as a customer support representative.
You can find it via the keyboard shortcuts.
Speaking of:
Keyboard shortcuts
You can use different combinations to enable different actions.
For example, you can use Alt + O on Windows to accept the suggestion where your cursor is on.
You also:
- accept all suggestions in the sentence the cursor is in
- launch your snippet selector
- launch the Sapling extension
You can customize your shortcuts and select how to enable the different actions through the app’s settings.
Apps and Integrations
Unfortunately, Sapling Grammar checker doesn’t offer a native app for desktop or mobile devices.
You have the option to download an extension for:
- Chrome
- Firefox
- Microsoft Edge
- Opera
- Brave
You can also download add-ons for Google Docs, Word, Outlook, etc.
It works with team hubs like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Workplace, etc.
With the Pro and Enterprise versions you can work with:
- Contact center software, Support help desks, and Chat like Zendesk, Helpshift, Freshdesk, etc.
- Sales engagement apps like LinkedIn, HubSpot, Salesforce, etc.
- Rich text editors like WordPress, ProseMirror, TinyMCE, etc.
There is also an option for Single sign-on with Google, Microsoft, and Okta.
The disadvantage is that you need to have an internet connection to use the software.
Sapling vs Grammarly
This wouldn’t be a complete Sapling Grammar review if I don’t compare it to one of the big names in the industry - Grammarly.
Let’s look at their similarities first.
Like Sapling, Grammarly also offers:
- Grammar, spelling, punctuation, and passive voice checkers
- Similar prices
- Free versions with basic features
- User-friendly and straightforward interface
What about their differences?
Well, first of all, Sapling offers a free trial of its pro version. Grammarly doesn’t.
However, it offers a plagiarism checker in its premium plan and it also has desktop and mobile apps. In addition, you can use it offline.
Which one do I recommend?
Overall, they both have their ups and downs. But when I compared the software, Sapling grammar checker detected more mistakes than Grammarly.
So there’s that.
Pricing
The software offers a free plan, but you don’t have access to all of its features. There are also pro and enterprise versions available.
Here’s what the three options offer:
$0
With the free version of the AI grammar checker, you have access to its basic features, AES-256 and TLS encryption, and 20 snippets.
$25/month
You get with all the features from the free version, plus unlimited snippets, advanced premium suggestions, and autocomplete everywhere. You’ll also have email and ticket support.
On the downside, the company doesn’t provide a money-back guarantee. However, it offers a free trial of the pro version so you can make an informed decision on whether you want to pay for the service.
Customer Support
You can contact them only via email. It’s been mentioned as a disadvantage in a few Sapling Grammar user reviews and I gotta agree.
There’s a page on their website with useful articles on how to use the software and FAQ, but it can’t beat a live chat.
I asked the customer support reps some basic questions about the software. They contacted me within three hours. So I can happily say that the company’s customer support is reliable.
Still, more options to contact them would be ideal.
Sapling Grammar Review - Verdict
Sapling Grammar certainly has a lot to offer. From a grammar checker to snippet suggestions, it offers all you need to create a great article.
True, it doesn’t have a plagiarism checker and the customer support could add more options to its channels.
However, those things are relatively easy to fix and if the Sapling Grammar team is listening to reviews, we might even get them sooner than later.
So, is it the best grammar checker for you? Try the free version and see for yourself!
