Snagit is a popular screen recording software developed by TechSmith. While recording screens is its main feature, it can also capture your webcam and audio. Users love it for its simplicity and the editing tools that allow you to create a wide variety of content.

Even though some users have reported on frequent crashes, the majority praises it highly.

What Is Snagit Software Used For?

Snagit is used to record anything on your screen. It can capture a complete desktop, a window, a region, or a scrolling window from any app or website. If you need to record audio as well, Snagit gives you the option.

The software comes with image editing features. When it comes to video editing, Snagit lets you trim, reduce the video’s size, and export it in a few different formats. However, many other Snagit reviews mention that the software is prone to crashing if you try to save a longer video after editing. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do but relaunch the program and record since your video won’t be saved.

Add Annotations

Add personality to your recordings and screenshots with the annotation tool. Select some of the premade styles in Snagit Editor or make your own.

Add Text

Adding text to your screenshots or videos is easily done with Snagit. With the editor, you can add text and drag it to the desired place. You can also select the text styles, import your own, change the fonts, color, size, and outline for a more personalized look.

Replace Text

Similar to the Grab Text feature, this Snagit tool recognizes any text in the recorded screenshots and provides the ability to edit. You can change the fonts, words, color, and size.

Blur Tool

If you have information in your screen recording you don’t want to share, you can use the blur tool. The editor lets you blur certain parts of the screen. You can choose between eight styles and their intensity.

Cut Out Tool

This Snagit tool lets you remove part of your image. You can use it to cut images in various ways.

Inside the Editor, you can find the Share button, which allows you to share your work via email, Word, Excel, Screencast, Evernote, Slack, and social media. From there, you can also print your screens if necessary.

There are more than 15 export options in Snagit screen recording software, including GIF, BMP, EPS, PDF, and PNG. 

Ease of Use and Interface

Taking a first look at the interface, we thought it looked slightly outdated and confusing as everything is tightly packed together. But once we observed it better, we realized that there’s no need for a bigger window.

On your left, you’ll see the capturing features. You can create presets and use them in future recordings. The Open Editor button will take you to the Editor where you can manipulate the media you record. The Editor itself has image editing features and, while they are slightly basic, they are easy to use. Snagit video editing abilities are also limited.

While we didn’t experience this while testing it, many other Snagit reviews mentioned that the software will crash without saving your edited video.

Snagit Review - Verdict

The Snagit screen capture software is one of the best on the market. It has everything you need to safely record your screen or webcam, take screenshots, and edit your recordings. The tools help you create interesting videos, simplified explanations, and professional presentations.

Snagit 2022 comes with an editor feature, however, it may be a bit too simple for some. We did love the grab text tool, but we found that video editing is as basic as can be. Our Snagit review would also like to point out that many users have complained about crashes and losing their footage while using the software.
