Vantrue is a Chinese company created in 2015 that quickly became popular in the field of intelligent technologies.

Vantrue S2 is a three-channel dash cam system, making it perfect for professional use. The model is compact, weighs 2.01 pounds, and its dimensions are 6.97 x 5.63 x 3.43 inches.

It has a 3” IPS touch screen and App connectivity which gives you full control. It’s equipped with all the necessary features every cam needs. A few standout ones include:

  • 24-hour parking mode
  • Supercapacitor
  • Emergency record

The camera’s adhesive mount ensures that the device stays stable on the windshield. It also has an embedded GPS and a microphone and speaker.

Before we start with this Vantrue S2 review, let’s take a look at what you’ll find in your package.

What’s in the Box?

box contents

The package contains:

  • Exterior and interior camera
  • Rear cam
  • 11.5ft type C charging cable
  • 3.3ft type C data cable
  • GPS adhesive mount
  • Adhesive stickers
  • User manual
  • Electrostatic stickers
  • Installation tool
  • Warning stickers

The box includes everything you’ll need to set up the cam system. If you strictly follow the instructions in the user manual, the whole process will take around 10 minutes. However, it’ll be a little longer if you want to hide all the annoying cables.

Shall we get started?

Vantrue S2 Specifications

Take a look at the main specs of the cam.

The dash cam system provides three-channel recording. This allows you to film the road in front of and behind the car as well as the vehicle’s interior simultaneously

It records at 1440p x 1080p x 1080p resolution at 30FPS. In addition, it’s equipped with three large-aperture and wide viewing camera lenses. The front and rear cam has a 160° viewing angle, and the interior one has 165°. This ensures you have all-around protection.

One OmniVision and two Sony Starvis CMOS sensors help to capture details like license plates and road signs even in a low-light environment. Also, the HDR technology improves image clarity.

Vantrue S2 utilizes four infrared LED lights around the interior cam to produce clear black and white images, making it perfect for Uber drivers.

There’s also an option to capture photos when you see something important. You can achieve that through the app or the cam.

Vantrue S2 comes with an embedded GPS module that tracks your route and speed in KM/H or MP/H. You can preview those things when you download the videos on your smartphone or PC.

Sound Quality

This wouldn’t be a complete dash cam system if it didn’t have an audio recording option. The camera has a built-in microphone that captures everything.

I went over my videos, and the sound quality is excellent. I could hear every little noise. However, if you want some privacy, you may want to turn off the sound recording on the camera or app.

The dash cam system comes with a built-in 2.4GHz Wi-Fi that lets you connect your smartphone to the app to share your videos.

Another way to transfer your clips to your PC is through the data cable.

Vantrue S2 supports microSD cards up to 512GB. Unfortunately, a card isn’t included in the package, but you can purchase one additionally from the company’s official website.

Let’s take a look at the more advanced features that the camera has to offer:

Emergency & Loop Recording

The G-sensor measures acceleration changes and will detect any sudden movement or collision. When that happens, the cam will automatically lock the video to the Event folder. This way you can use it as evidence if necessary.

The loop recording feature overwrites the oldest footage when the SD card is full to free up space for new recordings. You don’t have to worry about deleting something important though. The G-sensor saves everything vital in the Event folder.

Parking Mode

This camera provides 24-hour surveillance. Your vehicle will automatically enter this mode after five minutes of no movement. Motion and Collision detection look out for any action or impact.

Low bitrate and low frame rate recording also contribute to this mode. The former records at 720p at 15FPS. The latter allows your cam to record continuously at 1FPS. The videos are played back at 30FPS. Each one-minute video from this mode covers a period of real-time 30 minutes, but it doesn’t have a sound.

Also, note that your car needs to be hardwired to use the parking monitor. There’s an option to purchase the hardwire kit from the website.

App Connectivity

One of the cam’s handiest features after the touch screen is the App control. You can download the Vantrue application from the Apple or Google Play store and connect your device to your smartphone

With it, you gain full control over the camera and can do many things like:

  • Switching between the cams and live preview
  • Turning the mic on and off
  • Taking photos
  • Adjusting the settings
  • Downloading, editing, saving, sharing, and transferring all your files

The app has a user-friendly interface and doesn’t have a learning curve.

Take a look at it:

Instead of the traditional lithium batteries, the company uses supercapacitor ones. This allows the cam to withstand extreme temperatures from 14° F to 158° F. However, when I used the camera for a couple of hours, I noticed that it started to overheat. If used for a longer stretch of time, this may affect its performance.

This dash cam system costs $299.99 on the official website. Considering that you get a three-channel quality recording, the price is reasonable

The company offers worldwide shipping. When you place your order, it’ll be shipped out from the warehouse within one business day. After that, you should expect your package within three to five business days. You’ll receive a tracking number so you can check the status of your order anytime.

All Vantrue products come with a 12-month warranty. There’s an option to register your item on Vantrue’s website to get an additional six free months' warranty. In case of any problem with your device, you can get:

  • Repairs of the broken camera
  • A brand new camera
  • A full refund

There’s also a 30-day money-back guarantee. If you aren’t satisfied with the product, you can return it within this time frame. However, the customer covers the shipping costs and needs to make sure they haven’t damaged the cam.

Vantrue S2 Review - Verdict

This is another of Vantrue’s dash cam systems that offer excellent value for money. Despite the fact that no microSD card is included in the box, it provides all the basic features. In addition, it also comes with a lot of handy features like App control, Emergency and Loop recording, and 24-hour parking mode.

Do I recommend buying it?

If you’re a professional driver, you should give it a try. However, if you want a dash cam for everyday use, you probably won’t need the whole package. In this case, maybe Vantrue E1 would be a better solution for you.
